The latest Nigerian following the footsteps of Chimamanda

In a month’s time, the Baileys prize will announce it’s 2017 winner.

Among the six novelists is Nigeria’s Ayobami Adebayo, the author of the debut novel, Stay with me.

The prestigious annual £30000 book award for fiction had previously seen only one black woman clinch the award. But Ayobami’s intriguing ‘Stay with me’ could see her becoming just the second woman, following the footsteps of Chimamanda Adichie. The award has however previously seen three African women in the shortlist, making Ayobami the fourth woman.

Here are a few things to note about Stay with me;

The book is the debut novel of the Nigerian author. It was published in March 2017 by Canongate Ltd. The book is the tale of a barren woman Yejide and the pain that walked her through life after bearing children finally and discovering that two of three had the sickle cell disease.
